How to export a WhatsApp chat
It takes less than a minute. You'll get a .txt or .zip file you can upload straight away.
On iPhone
- 1Open WhatsApp and the chat you want to analyse.
- 2Tap the contact's name at the top of the screen.
- 3Scroll down and tap Export chat.
- 4Choose Without media. It's faster and we only read text.
- 5Save to Files, or share it to yourself, then upload the .zip here.
On Android
- 1Open WhatsApp and the chat you want to analyse.
- 2Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
- 3Tap More, then Export chat.
- 4Choose Without media.
- 5Save the .txt file to your phone or Drive, then upload it here.
Good to know
- Long chats are fine. Years of messages usually make a file of just a few megabytes without media.
- Exporting does not notify the other person.
- If the export option is missing, update WhatsApp. Some work accounts disable exporting.
- Upload the .zip as it is. There's no need to unzip it.
